Nokia N9 Target Release Markets Rapidly Expanding Beyond 23 Countries

Nokia N9 Release Target Markets Expanding Rapidly

Since the initial launch of the Nokia N9 handset in Singapore on the 21st of June, the list of International Markets targeted for the retail released has continued to expand beyond the list of the initial 23 countries without much ado.

The most notable additions are Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Indonesia, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway and Philippines.

Afghanistan, Lebanon and Pakistan have been added to the 56 other countries covered under the tri-lingual Middle East and Africa Nokia website.

The number of potential buyers are simply staggering, with 1 billion customers in Africa, 230 million in Argentina and Brazil, and another 1 billion or so in China. This is not including the highly-active Smartphone markets in South East Asia and Europe, traditional Nokia strongholds.

As such, there would be no real difference if the N9 was not released in the US or UK markets, although it would have been nice for those living in these markets to have the same access to N9 handset. The US market has always been closed to Nokia smartphones and the British can always request their European, African, Middle-Eastern and Asian cousins to buy them a unit for Christmas.

Pity.

Almost all of of the countries listed above have dedicated web-pages on the local Nokia websites for the Nokia N9. Many have dedicated local “Check Availability” portal for the imminent release of the Nokia N9 in the respective countries.

Some, like Denmark even have links to the local Telecommunications carriers like Vodafone and 3, whom will be offering the phone on contract when launched in September of this year.

We also know that 3 in Sweden have also officially stated that they will be offering the Nokia N9 in September.

This makes for very exciting times indeed for all those waiting to get their hands on the Nokia N9 handset. Added to this is the rumour that the Nokia N9 release will be limited to 92,000 handsets only (then again, this is from a man who refused to return a Nokia N8 handset after it was leaked to him, leading to Russian police searching his house!). Nokia have released an official statement on Mr Murtazin’s actions.

Regardless of rumours, the availability fo the Nokia N9 will still be on a first come first serve basis. Hence, it would be advisable to register at your respective local Nokia website “Check Availability” portal so that you will be notified immediately when the Nokia N9 is launched locally.

The Nokia N9 release is going to be so hot!

We will facilitate this process for you. For each of the country which has a local “Check Availability” portal, we will provide a link below the Flag of the respective country. For the others without, we will still provide direct links to the local dedicated Nokia N9 portal so that you can find more information.

Enjoy!

Ps We note that for all the other countries not listed above, many are still using the Nokia N9 icon as part of the “Nokia Products” button on the local country website. It is not clear what is the significance of this, but it may imply that many of these so-called “excluded” markets will also be selling the N9 handset once it’s released for the retail market world-wide in September 2011. It is likely that the list above will continue to expand over the next few weeks.

  1. ABC says:

    in India?

    • nokiavswp7 says:

Sorry, no news at present. However, the N9 has Penta Band capability, so I know of no reason why a SIM-free set cannot be used in India. Furthermore, FCC approval has been applied for and approved for India based on the documents released into the public domain. You just need to show your local network carrier the large interest the N9 has in India.
